Frequently asked questions
What ACTVT does, what it costs, and where your data goes.
- What is ACTVT?
- ACTVT is a native macOS app for Apple Silicon that monitors your AI coding agent sessions alongside your Mac’s hardware. It shows Claude Code and Codex CLI token usage, estimated spend, and tool activity next to live CPU, GPU, memory, network, and port metrics, in one interface.
- Which AI coding agents does ACTVT support?
- ACTVT supports Claude Code and Codex CLI. It reads the session files those CLIs already write, so there is nothing extra to configure.
- What are ACTVT’s system requirements?
- ACTVT requires macOS 15.5 or later on an Apple Silicon Mac. The companion CLI used for Remote Sessions also runs on Linux, on both arm64 and x86_64.
- How much does ACTVT cost?
- ACTVT has three tiers. Free costs nothing and includes real-time Mac monitoring, port monitoring, and 72 hours of agent session history. Basic is a one-time $9.99 purchase that adds Remote Sessions over SSH and 30 days of history. Premium is a subscription at $7.99 per month billed annually, or $14.99 per month billed monthly, and adds unlimited history, the spend dashboard, and Claude and Codex plan usage meters.
- Is there a free version of ACTVT?
- Yes. The Free tier is free forever and includes real-time CPU, memory and network monitoring, port monitoring, on-device PII detection, the MCP server’s live system and port tools, and agent session history for the last 72 hours.
- Does ACTVT send my data to the cloud?
- No. ACTVT processes metrics and session data on your Mac, and PII detection runs entirely on-device. Remote Sessions connect to your other machines over plain SSH with no cloud service in between, no daemon on the remote host, and remote data held in memory only rather than written to your Mac’s local index.
- Can ACTVT monitor agent sessions running on other machines?
- Yes. Remote Sessions lists Claude Code and Codex CLI sessions from your other Macs and from headless Linux servers over plain SSH. It requires key-based SSH authentication because ACTVT connects with BatchMode enabled, and online Tailscale peers are discovered automatically. Remote Sessions is available on any paid tier.
- What can AI agents do with ACTVT’s MCP server?
- ACTVT ships a built-in MCP server, so Claude Code and Codex can query your Mac directly instead of you relaying the answer. Agents can read live CPU, GPU, memory and network metrics, list listening ports, and search their own session history, costs, and error patterns. The live system and port tools are available on every tier; how far back session history reaches follows the tier — 72 hours on Free, 30 days on Basic, and full history on Premium.
- Can ACTVT show how close I am to my Claude or Codex plan limit?
- Yes. The Premium tier adds plan usage meters for Claude and Codex with session, weekly, and monthly bars and reset countdowns. They need no setup — ACTVT reads the CLI’s existing login.
- What languages is ACTVT available in?
- ACTVT is fully localized in English, French, and German, in both light and dark themes.
